Astrophysicists Puzzle Over Planet That’s Too Close To Its Sun–If the Universe is Old, It Should Have Burned Up!

Item: The moon moves away from the earth about 1.5 inches a year. In 6,000 years, the moon would have moved only 750 feet. In a billion years, those 1.5 inches a year would move the moon out 23,674.24 miles. A moon moving away at that distance would have a tremendous impact here on earth. Science says that the universe is 4.5 billion years old–meaning that the moon would have moved 106,534.09 miles away from earth (half its current distance) if the rate were constant.

Item: Small planets with weak gravity retain some atmosphere in contravention to accepted theories. In an old universe, those planets should be atmosphere free by this time. This is an indication that these planets are still very young.

Here a planet very close to its sun should have burned up completely in 4.5 billion years. The fact that it hasn’t could be explained by a young universe–but this alternative apparently does not occur to the scientists scratching their heads.

Completing an orbit in less than an Earth day, planet Wasp-18b should have burned up, according to accepted theory

By John Johnson Jr.
LA Times
August 27, 2009

Scientists have discovered a planet that shouldn’t exist. The finding, they say, could alter our understanding of orbital dynamics, a field considered pretty well settled since the time of astronomer Johannes Kepler 400 years ago.

The planet is known as a “hot Jupiter,” a gas giant orbiting the star Wasp-18, about 330 light-years from Earth. The planet, Wasp-18b, is so close to the star that it completes a full orbit (its “year”) in less than an Earth day, according to the research, which was published in the journal Nature.

Of the more than 370 exoplanets — planets orbiting stars other than our sun — discovered so far, this is just the second with such a close orbit.

The problem is that a planet that close should be consumed by its parent star in less than a million years, say the authors at Keele University in Britain. The star Wasp-18 is believed to be about a billion years old, and because stars and the planets around them are thought to form at the same time, Wasp-18b should have been reduced to cinders ages ago.

“This planet should spiral inwards on such a short time scale that the likelihood of seeing it is very low,” said Coel Hellier, an astrophysicist at Keele.

“That’s a paradox,” said Douglas P. Hamilton, an astronomer at the University of Maryland who wrote a commentary accompanying the report. He said there were a variety of possible explanations, none of them very satisfactory.

“It’s like going to the scene of the crime and not finding the weapon,” he said. “Something’s happened, but a key piece of evidence is missing.”

One possibility is that Wasp-18, a sunlike, medium-sized star, is a thousand times less energetic than would be expected. That would mean it produces much less friction on the planet than normal.

This orbital drag, which scientists call the “tidal dissipation factor,” slows a planet each time it circles its star. Eventually, the planet no longer has enough energy to maintain its position, so it falls into the star and is engulfed.

But if the star’s energy is a thousand times less than expected, that would be a big surprise, Hamilton said. It would imply that science doesn’t understand the composition and characteristics of sunlike stars as well as it thought it did.

A second possibility is that the planet hasn’t been in its current position very long, Hellier said. Wasp-18b could have spiraled inward to its current position over millions of years. It may have been bumped out of its original orbit by another planet, for example.

“However, that does not solve the problem,” Hellier said, because the planet’s lifetime should still be very short and it would be very unlikely for his team to find it where it did.

The final possibility is that “we’re just missing something — there is some property of stars or tides that we just don’t understand,” Hamilton said.

In our solar system, the closest example of a similar mystery is Mars’ moon, Phobos. It orbits Mars at a distance of only about 5,600 miles. (Our moon orbits Earth at 40 times that distance.) Phobos’ orbit should cause it to crash into Mars in just 30 million years, a fraction of the 4.5-billion-year age of the solar system.

“Perhaps we really are missing some key bit of physics,” Hamilton wrote in his commentary.

An answer could be coming in just a few years. According to Hellier, if the orbit of Wasp-18b really is decaying at the expected rate, the effects should be measurable within the next decade.

The Last Vestige of the Mythical Vestigial Organ Claim?

Psalm 139:14
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well

These authors are careful to say that they are not disparaging Darwin as they disassemble several Darwinist cornerstones. Remember how Darwinists used to try to hammer believers with that whole vestigial organ take? The same thing was done with “junk DNA”. If there was a Creator, they asked, why would He make imperfect DNA? (This was before science bagan to understand how important “junk” DNA really is).

What these two topics have in common is that they are examples of how Darwinists have attempted to use their own ignorance as a hammer to pound believers and as a crutch to support Darwinism. In the end, will every important Darwinist theory or supposition be proved incorrect while the theory itself remains viable for evolutionary believers? Or will belief in Darwinism by evolutionists become vestigial; “Occurring or persisting as a rudimentary or degenerate structure”….dictionary.com?……s8int.com

The Appendix: Useful and in Fact Promising
Charles Q. Choi
Special to LiveScience

The body’s appendix has long been thought of as nothing more than a worthless evolutionary artifact, good for nothing save a potentially lethal case of inflammation.

Now researchers suggest the appendix is a lot more than a useless remnant. Not only was it recently proposed to actually possess a critical function, but scientists now find it appears in nature a lot more often than before thought. And it’s possible some of this organ’s ancient uses could be recruited by physicians to help the human body fight disease more effectively.

In a way, the idea that the appendix is an organ whose time has passed has itself become a concept whose time is over.

“Maybe it’s time to correct the textbooks,” said researcher William Parker, an immunologist at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, N.C. “Many biology texts today still refer to the appendix as a ‘vestigial organ.’”

Slimy sac

The vermiform appendix is a slimy dead-end sac that hangs between the small and large intestines. No less than Charles Darwin first suggested that the appendix was a vestigial organ from an ancestor that ate leaves, theorizing that it was the evolutionary remains of a larger structure, called a cecum, which once was used by now-extinct predecessors for digesting food.

“Everybody likely knows at least one person who had to get their appendix taken out – slightly more than 1 in 20 people do – and they see there are no ill effects, and this suggests that you don’t need it,” Parker said.

However, Parker and his colleagues recently suggested that the appendix still served as a vital safehouse where good bacteria could lie in wait until they were needed to repopulate the gut after a nasty case of diarrhea. Past studies had also found the appendix can help make, direct and train white blood cells.

Now, in the first investigation of the appendix over the ages, Parker explained they discovered that it has been around much longer than anyone had suspected, hinting that it plays a critical function.

“The appendix has been around for at least 80 million years, much longer than we would estimate if Darwin’s ideas about the appendix were correct,” Parker said.

Moreover, the appendix appears in nature much more often than previously acknowledged. It has evolved at least twice, once among Australian marsupials such as the wombat and another time among rats, lemmings, meadow voles, Cape dune mole-rats and other rodents, as well as humans and certain primates.

“When species are divided into groups called ‘families,’ we find that more than 70 percent of all primate and rodent groups contain species with an appendix,” Parker said.

Several living species, including several lemurs, certain rodents and the scaly-tailed flying squirrel, still have an appendix attached to a large cecum, which is used in digestion. Darwin had thought appendices appeared in only a small handful of animals.

“We’re not saying that Darwin’s idea of evolution is wrong – that would be absurd, as we’re using his ideas on evolution to do this work,” Parker told LiveScience. “It’s just that Darwin simply didn’t have the information we have now.”

He added, “If Darwin had been aware of the species that have an appendix attached to a large cecum, and if he had known about the widespread nature of the appendix, he probably would not have thought of the appendix as a vestige of evolution.”

What causes appendicitis?

Darwin was also not aware that appendicitis, or a potentially deadly inflammation of the appendix, is not due to a faulty appendix, but rather to cultural changes associated with industrialized society and improved sanitation, Parker said.

“Those changes left our immune systems with too little work and too much time their hands – a recipe for trouble,” he said. “Darwin had no way of knowing that the function of the appendix could be rendered obsolete by cultural changes that included widespread use of sewer systems and clean drinking water.”

Now that scientists are uncovering the normal function of the appendix, Parker notes a critical question to ask is whether anything can be done to prevent appendicitis. He suggests it might be possible to devise ways to incite our immune systems today in much the same manner that they were challenged back in the Stone Age.

“If modern medicine could figure out a way to do that, we would see far fewer cases of allergies, autoimmune disease, and appendicitis,” Parker said.

The scientists detailed their findings online August 12 in the Journal of Evolutionary Biology.

Know Evolution (No Evolution)

There’s an interesting problem plaguing an area in Canada east of Toronto. It seems that hybrid animals that some are calling coywolfs are wreaking havoc on the livestock up there. Coywolfs are a hybrid between wolfs and coyotes.

It’s an interesting story but here’s the problem. Trent University geneticist Bradley White, called the situation, quote; “evolution in action”. Well, no its not!

Its certainly not evolution in the sense that “evolution” is an English word. Could geneticist, Bradley White be one of those Canadians for whom English is a second language?

In what sense is offspring being born with 50% of its DNA coming from one parent and 50% of its DNA coming from the other, evolution? Was Mr. White’s own birth, which in every important sense occurred just like that of the coywolf’s, also evolution in action?

The fact of the matter is; these hybrid creatures came into being in the same way that the English bulldog, the French poodle and other canine breeds came into existence–by breeding, be it controlled by man or naturally. From one breeding pair of canines on the ark came; German shepherds, poodles, wolves, coyotes, foxes, boxers, etc. etc. These creatures are a product of the variability built into living creatures by God–just like horses and zebras….s8int.com

TheRecord.com – CanadaWorld – Meet the coywolf: Hybrid animals plaguing area east of Toronto

By Carola Vyhnak, Toronto Star

Is it a coyote? Is it a wolf?

Yes and yes. It’s a “coywolf.”

The predators that are plaguing Durham Region and showing up in urban areas appear to be an emerging species resulting from wolves and coyotes interbreeding.

The larger, highly adaptable animals “have the wolf characteristics of pack hunting and aggression and the coyote characteristics of lack of fear of human-developed areas,” says Trent University geneticist Bradley White, who’s been studying the hybrids for 12 years.

We’re seeing “evolution in action,” he says.

But that combination of genetic material from both species has spelled trouble for farmers, who are losing a growing number of livestock to predators.

They report attacks by animals that are bigger, bolder and smarter than regular coyotes. They say hunting in packs to prey on sheep and cattle in broad daylight is becoming a common behaviour.

Durham Region farmers have suffered the most damage to livestock in the province. Last year the food and agriculture ministry paid out a total compensation of $168,000 in the region for 545 dead or injured animals.

Commonly called eastern coyotes, the creatures are actually a mixture of western coyote and eastern wolf that comes from a constantly evolving gene pool, says White, chair and professor of biology in Peterborough.

Going back 100 years, deforestation, wolf control programs and changing habitat, ecosystems and prey conspired to drive down the wolf population. Meanwhile, the number of coyotes – whose original range was in western North America – grew, thanks to their ability to adapt and reproduce with ease. The two species started to interbreed, White explains.

“In many ways, this animal is a creation of human impact on the planet,” says White.

Although the coywolf hybrid has only recently been verified through genetic research, White believes they started appearing in southern Algonquin Park back in the 1920s.

Colleague Paul Wilson, a wildlife genetics specialist, says the genetic gumbo from which coywolves emerge produces some that are more wolf-like, while others have more coyote characteristics. But they’re definitely bigger.

“Some of these are 80-pound animals, double the size of a typical coyote that used to be 40 pounds.”

But there’s no cause for alarm, says John Pisapio, a wildlife biologist with the Ministry of Natural Resources, which is studying the role of coyotes and wolves in the ecosystem.

Hybrids may be larger but there’s no evidence the population as a whole is more aggressive or prone to aberrant behaviour, he says.

He agrees predation on livestock is a concern – they do kill sheep and smaller animals – but insists attacks on cattle are unusual.

“As a biologist I find it hard to explain how a coyote brings down a 900-pound steer.”

In some cases, coyotes might just be feeding on an animal that died from other causes, he says.

The population growth is a natural upswing following a mange epidemic that wiped out big numbers eight or nine years ago, he adds.

Pisapio says instances of fearlessness or brazen attacks are usually the result of coyotes that have come to associate food with people and lose their natural fear of humans.

That belief is echoed by Johnny, “The Critter Gitter,” who didn’t want his last name used because people don’t like that he kills problem wildlife for a living.

“I kill coyotes. I don’t sugarcoat it,” he says.

But he feels sympathy for them.

“Humans are to blame for making monsters of them,” he says. Coyotes are attracted by pet food and garbage left lying around in urban areas, and deadstock on farms.

They’re not all bad and often get the blame when dogs kill livestock, he says. Johnny also doubts they’re making a regular meal of cattle. During the 30 years he’s worked in the province, he’s seen only a few cases of “large, healthy animals taken down by coyotes.”

But as coywolves become more urbanized and their relationship with people continues to evolve, city dwellers can expect problems, says White, suggesting a control program may be needed at some point.

“They will clearly bump into human activities, and there will be pets eaten in Rouge Valley.”

Photo:Fossil squid and living squid. Which is which? Does it really matter?

Did you follow that title?

Item; there’s an interesting thing about ants, bees, spiders and other insects caught in amber supposedly millions of years ago, discovered, collected and studied today.

The problem is; they are ants, bees, spiders and other insects! No matter how old the amber in which they’ve been trapped supposedly is; 50 million, 75 million, 150 million, they are obviously what they are and recognizably so. So; where’s the evolution?

Item; not too long ago, which we’ve mentioned here a few times, scientists marveled at how similar a fossil octopus was to current octopi, even though the fossil was allegedly 95 million years old. Where’s the evolution?

Item: a fossil lamprey, allegedly 360 million years old was so identical in every respect to “modern” lampreys that the scientists studying them could only claim that “perhaps they had gotten a little longer”, a very unscientific claim to make on the basis of one specimen. One has to ask; where is the evolution?

No evolution in 95 million years? No evolution in 360 million years? Of course, we’re just looking at the tip of the iceberg here; there are probaly a thousand other examples if not more. Recently, scientists came across a group of fossil squids which they claim are 150 million years old. These squid were so “fresh” that the scientists were able to extract ink and use it to draw a picture of the specimen. What caused this group of creatures to become fossilized, rather than to rot or be eaten?

How is something like “ink” preserved for 150 million years? Where is the evolution?

The answer is; no evolution and a young earth!

Ink found in Jurassic-era squid …BBC News
Palaeontologists have drawn with ink extracted from a preserved fossilised squid uncovered during a dig in Trowbridge, Wiltshire.

The fossil, thought to be 150 million years old, was found when a rock was cracked open, revealing the one-inch-long black ink sac.

A picture of the creature and its Latin name was drawn using its ink.

Dr Phil Wilby of the British Geological Survey said it was an ancient creature similar to the modern-day squid.

“The structure is similar to ink from a modern squid so we can write with it,” he said.

‘Medusa effect’

The find was made at a site which was first excavated in Victorian times where thousands of Jurassic fossils with preserved soft tissues were found.

Dr Wilby, who led the excavation, said: “We think that these creatures were swimming around during the Jurassic period and were turned to stone soon after death. It’s called the Medusa effect.”

Experts believe one possibility is that thousands of the creatures congregated in the area to mate before being poisoned by algae in the water.

Remains of a different species of squid have also been found, suggesting the carcasses attracted predators to feed on them and they in turn also died.

Dr Wilby said: “They can be dissected as if they are living animals, you can see the muscle fibres and cells.

“It is difficult to imagine how you can have something as soft and sloppy as an ink sac fossilised in three dimension, still black, and inside a rock that is 150 million years old.”

The specimen is now in the British Geological Survey collection in Nottingham.

Part of the ink sac has been sent to Yale University in America for more in-depth chemical analysis.

On the right is the “new Soft-Touch Giant Pteranodon” by Everything Dinosaur. It is reportedly, “very easy to carry around” and is “soft and squeezy”. On the left is an apparent pteranodon depiction made by eyewitnesses. At least we assume that the makers of this mask topped by the “pteranodon creature” actually looked like–or got his hands on somebody’s modern “dinosaur” book.

Pteranodon was thought by some to have gone extinct millions of years before man even “evolved”. This artist was savvy enough to know that pteranodon had no teeth and ate fish. The artist has made the eyes bulge in this representation in a way most modern conceptions of the creature do not.

The mask is antique, and comes from the Dan people who inhabited the Ivory Coast beginning in the eighth century. This piece is owned by a collector.

The Gallery identifies the “bird-like creature” atop the mask as “zoomorphic”.

Note that the beaks are extremely similar–depicted as “shiny” in both the mask and the toy. . His wings are tucked somewhat behind him. The two figures agree as to body shape, head spike, beak, legs and feet.

This mask is from the Ashione gallery.

“Live Pterosaurs in America” now on sale (The non-fiction book is on Amazon.com)

Press Release: Three reasons American pterosaur sightings are not from hoaxes

“Live Pterosaurs in America” nonfiction book

At last! For a little more than four years, I have compiled testimonies from eyewitnesses who
have seen apparent pterosaurs in the United States. After almost six months of writing, re-writing, and
editing, the book is now published and selling well.

“Live Pterosaurs in America” is a pure cryptozoology book, with the evolution-creation aspect mostly in
one section of the appendix. Few readers should be offended by reading it, but some of the accounts
are shocking. The creatures are not confined to any state or region. They are rare but widespread.

My book is now available on Amazon.com: Live Pterosaurs in America

Please consider purchasing on Amazon, if you would like to help offset the costs of my lengthy investigation. My main direct expense was the 2004 expedition to Papua New Guinea. But the hours I have spent investigating apparent living-pterosaurs, over the years, has now passed 2000.

Because my publisher is closely affiliated with Amazon.com, each book purchase through Amazon
brings much higher royalty compensation than it would through another publisher (such as the one that published “Searching for Ropens.”)

Nevertheless, I am happy to provide a discount code to those who would like to buy more than one copy of the new book. This generous discount is available by direct purchase from the publisher. Please contact me for details, if you would like to buy more than one.

“Reports of Living Pterosaurs in U.S. Fail Explanation as Hoaxes, According to Author Jonathan Whitcomb”

Although the title of this recent press release may be misleading (it would have been better for PRfree to have put it “Fail a Hoax-Explanation”), the content is clear: Three separate factors discredit the idea that hoaxes played any significant part in the eyewitness testimonies of apparent pterosaurs in the United States.

Palin-tology

I’ve learned from bitter experience that the question; “are you really as stupid as you look?” is best not answered with a simple yes or no. Along with yes or no, some explanatory oratory is probably best. On the other hand, a Christian should be expected to answer the question as to his/her belief that man and dinosaur lived together within the last 10,000 years with a simple and definitive, “yes!”

Even though the majority of Americans (for instance) believe that God was involved in creation and reject evolution to a greater or lesser extent, the idea that man and dinosaur lived together is more and more considered to be a foolish and backward. An idea suitable only to be laughed at.

Governor Palin, was no doubt more than a little naive when she suggested that non-existent over flights by Putin (and his ugly head) over Alaska constituted foreign policy experience but she was correct about the dinosaurs. Nonetheless, many media sources were derisive in reporting that she believed man and dinosaur interacted; as if everyone reading their stories would share their point of view.

Sadly, many Christians would have trouble answering the dinosaur and man question with a simple yes. For many, there would need to be some “hem and hawing” and for some, there would be a quick and maybe even emphatic denial.

The truth is, however there is overwhelming evidence that man and dinosaur did exist together. Ancient cultures left voluminous evidence in the form of art, and literature for example, that they interacted with creatures that we now call dinosaurs. That evidence is largely ignored, suppressed, hidden or misunderstood. However, everyone is aware that ancient cultures shared an experience with creatures they called “dragons” that it is clear, they regarded as real creatures.

These dragons were in virtually every respect; when taken together with pterosaurs, exactly like dinosaurs that science claims became extinct millions of years before man evolved. Why don’t evolutionists have to spend every waking moment trying to convince us that there is no connection between the dragons of antiquity with dinosaurs? Because despite the almost organic resistance society has to evolution, we have nevertheless accepted the notion that the universe is billions of years old.

Materialism and its associated religious doctrines are crumbling under the weight of true science however. It is evolutionists and materialists that should be feeling defensive about their beliefs. Francis Collins, who headed the successful human genome project is now a “believer” who was recently selected by President Obama to head the National Institute of Health said the following about DNA; (paraphrased) “if everyone on earth started reading a portion of the information contained in a single cell of DNA it would take 31 years to read it all”.

That is the amount of information in a single cell and each of us has trillions of such cells in our body. Who put this coded information in the cells of everything living? By the way, Atheists and liberals are opposing Collins because he believes God coded this information into the cells of living things.

As for the universe itself, it has become so clearly created for life that physicists are seriously proposing and Alice in Wonderland notion, known as string theory, that postulates an infinite number of invisible and undetectable universes and hypothesizes further that we just happen to live in the one tailored for life. Why not propose that the universe is carried upon the back of a giant tortoise—or has that already been suggested?

As for the big bang, up to 96% of the universe is described as being made up of “dark” matter and energy. They are like those invisible and undetectable universes of string theory and they must be assumed to exist or else the whole big bang theory would collapse. Those who believe and preach these science doctrines are the ones who are deriding Governor Palin and “fundamentalists” for believing what the Bible teaches.

As we shall see, there is evidence out there in the world beyond Sarah Palin’s back porch to suggest that she does read and that man and dinosaur did co-exist.

Dragons Liar

When paleontologist Mary Schweitzer claimed to have found collagen protein and connective tissue in the thigh bone of a t-rex in 2007 and in a fossilized duck-billed dinosaur in 2009 she received a lot of grief and resistance from the scientific community. This is because; no one could accept that protein could still be obtained from a creature that allegedly died more than 65 million years ago.

Imagine if you will, trying to run for public office only to have the media discover that you harbored such ridiculous beliefs. That would be really stup….Wait; one second….I’m being told that there are plenty of people out there willing to believe it. Let’s move on.

The sauropod dinosaur is iconic. It was the largest land creature ever and has a very long neck, a long tail and a somewhat bulky quadruped body in the middle. Because it is iconic, it can be represented in detail or with a few simple lines. It is easy to recognize.

If man and dinosaur co-existed, it should be somewhere represented in the arts of man. They would have been too big to ignore. As a matter of fact, a total absence of its description or depiction would be a serious problem for creationists. As it turns out however, that problem doesn’t exist.

Just as the internet disposed of the notion that Egyptians looked like Charleston Heston or Edward G. Robinson (N.Y. accent: where’s your God nahowwww, Moses, huhhhhh?), it will give people a chance to see and to investigate for themselves some of the evidence of man and dinosaur co-existence scattered about in museums and art galleries around the world.

The idea that such evidence doesn’t exist because man and dinosaur never saw each other is frankly, a lie. All evidence to the contrary is suppressed, labeled as hoaxes, as fakes or simply ignored. The question is, how and why did ancient man conceive of mythological creatures almost exactly like dinosaurs…large, reptilian quadrupeds. When it comes to sauropods specifically, how to explain long necked, long tailed quadrupeds of the iconic sauropod shape among cultures that supposedly missed the creatures by 45 million years or so?

What if there are features of ancient, iconic sauropod depictions which have only recently been discovered by modern science? How will science explain that? I’m guessing something invisible and undetectable ;0).
