Making Tools: So Easy A Caveman Could Do it?

Christians and bible readers new all along that there was no such thing as a primitive “cave man”. Science with the aid of science illustrators have for years have provided support to Darwin’s theory by portraying “Neanderthal” and “Cro-Magnon” men as primitive, apelike ancestors. In recent years however, more and more scientific data has shown that they were as advanced as ‘modern” men. Meanwhile, some experts still insist that Neanderthal could not speak, did not buty their dead and of course, had no language. This depiction has always been bogus….s8int.com

For example see:Neanderthal DNA

Early stone tools developed by our species Homo sapiens were no more sophisticated than those used by our extinct relatives the Neanderthals.

That is the conclusion of researchers who recreated and compared tools used by these ancient human groups.

The findings cast doubt on suggestions that more advanced stone technologies gave modern humans a competitive edge over the Neanderthals.

The work by a US-British team appears in the Journal of Human Evolution.

The researchers recreated wide stone tools called “flakes”, which were used by both Neanderthals and early modern humans. They also reconstructed “blades” – a narrower stone tool later adopted by Homo sapiens.

Some archaeologists often use the development of stone blades and their assumed efficiency as evidence for the superior intellect of our species. The team analysed the data to compare the number of tools produced, how much cutting edge was created, the efficiency in consuming raw material and how long tools lasted.

They found no statistical difference in the efficiency of the two stone technologies.

In some respects, the flakes favoured by Neanderthals were even more efficient than the blades adopted by modern humans.

Pros and cons
The result casts doubt on the idea that blades were a significant technological advance, helping our ancestors out-compete, and eventually eradicate, their evolutionary cousins the Neanderthals.
The Neanderthals (Homo neanderthalensis) appear in the fossil record about 400,000 years ago.
At their peak, these squat, physically powerful hunters dominated a wide area spanning Britain and Iberia in the west, Israel in the south and Siberia in the east.

Meanwhile, Homo sapiens evolved in Africa, and displaced the Neanderthals after spreading into Europe about 40,000 years ago.

The last known evidence of Neanderthals comes from Gibraltar and is dated to between 28,000 and 24,000 years ago.

Lead author Metin Eren, from the University of Exeter, UK, said: “Technologically speaking, there is no clear advantage of one tool over the other. “When we think of Neanderthals, we need to stop thinking in terms of ‘stupid’ or ‘less advanced’ and more in terms of ‘different’.”

He added: “Our research disputes a major pillar holding up the long-held assumption that Homo sapiens was more advanced than Neanderthals.

“It is time for archaeologists to start searching for other reasons why Neanderthals became extinct while our ancestors survived.”

Greater variety
Professor Chris Stringer, head of human origins at London’s Natural History Museum, said: “There are now very few palaeoanthropologists who consider the Neanderthals to have been ‘stupid’, or who consider that they died out because they made flake rather than blade tools.”

Professor Stringer, who was not connected with the study, added: “We know that the Neanderthals were very capable technicians, and that their tools would have been excellent for activities such as butchery, working skins or wood.

“However, the blade tools manufactured by early modern humans in Europe were often modified for specialisation as piercers, chisels or engravers, and as parts of composite tools, such as harpoons.
“With modern humans we not only find a greater variety of tools, but also much greater working of difficult materials like bone, antler and ivory.”

The authors of the paper in Journal of Human Evolution suggest that, since they conferred no technological advantage, modern humans may have used blades because they had cultural meaning.
“For early Homo sapiens colonizing Ice Age Europe, a new shared and flashy-looking technology might serve as one form of social glue by which larger social networks were bonded,” said Mr Eren.

Video Update: The Ancient Rock Wall, in Rockwall Texas

Scott O. called to let us know about this 1998 video of the Rockwall, Texas Wall–the reason Rockwall is called Rockwall. Several people from the area had lately reported that they have not been able to find the wall or anything about it.

Scott is from (nearby?) Lubbock, Texas. Scott, it was too late to call you back but when your sites are up we will link, brother. Thanks and God speed!

Anyway, we’ve previously posted two articles about an ancient, megalithic rock wall in Rockwall, Texas that some say is man made and some say is a purely natural feature.

A 1907 New York Times article entitled “Digging for Buried City” reported that Mr. J.E. Hess was excavating around the wall in hopes of locating a buried city. He reported that the wall is made up of regularly sized and shaped native sandstone slabs- and that the wall was buried to a depth of about three feet, and that it was known to be approximately 40 feet high.

In 1925 in contravention of the “experts” who had come and examined the wall and proclaimed it to simply be a natural sandstone formation, according to a New York Times article, a Dr. Lena James, believing otherwise, discovered several triangular, monogrammed stones which had been placed into the wall.

Dr. James discovered these stones at a depth of 50 feet. Her discovery at least temporarily reawakened interest in the wall and hope that a prehistoric city might be found in RockWall, Texas.

The rock wall in Rockwall will no doubt continue to be a mystery, but early newspaper accounts make it clear that it wasn’t the only unknown, mysterious, buried, megalithic structure in Texas. In Milano, Texas, some 150 miles away, an ancient rock wall was reported to be 20 miles long and to rival the size of the Great Wall of China.

Among the comments in this video are that its made up of quartz and feldspar, which are not found in the location of the wall and that according to one geologist, there was evidence of electromagnetic activity in the wall…..There was also a bit of consternation as to why the university hadn’t sent scientists out to study the structure………

by David Berlinski

(Video of Berlinski not related to the book but gives an idea of the kind of analysis he applies to the problem)

I read this great book over the weekend. Berlinski is smarter, wittier, more urbane and certainly better informed than Dawkins and Hitchens, two militant Atheists who’ve both made a pile of money recently denigrating God and religion, particularly Christianity. Berlinski takes them and their “scientific Atheists” brothers apart without breaking a sweat and with some humor. We say, if you only read one book this year; read the Bible but if you’ve got more time on your hands, read this book (along with Saboe’s “Days of Peleg”…s8int.com

“David Berlinski received his Ph.D. in philosophy from Princeton University and was later a postdoctoral fellow in mathematics and molecular biology at Columbia University. He has authored works on systems analysis, differential topology, theoretical biology, analytic philosophy, and the philosophy of mathematics, as well as three novels. He has also taught philosophy, mathematics and English at such universities as Stanford, Rutgers, the City University of New York and the Universite de Paris. In addition, he has held research fellowships at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) in Austria and the Institut des Hautes Etudes Scientifiques (IHES) in France.

Recent articles by Dr. Berlinski have been featured in Commentary, Forbes ASAP, and the Boston Review. Two of his articles, “On the Origins of the Mind” (November 2004) and “What Brings a World into Being” (March 2001) have been anthologized in The Best American Science Writing 2005 , edited by Alan Lightman (Harper Perennial), and The Best American Science Writing 2002, edited by Jesse Cohen, respectively.”..Discovery Institute

Reviews of “The Devil’s Delusion”

“Berlinski knows his science and wields his rapier deftly. He makes great sport with his opponents, and his readers will surely enjoy it.”
—Tom Bethell, bestselling author of The Politically Incorrect Guide to Science

“A powerful riposte to atheist mockery and cocksure science, and to the sort of philosophy that surrenders to them. David Berlinski proceeds reasonably and calmly to challenge recent scientific theorizing and to expose the unreason from which it presumes to criticize religion.”
—Harvey Mansfield, Professor of Government, Harvard University

“Berlinski’s book is everything desirable: it is idiomatic, profound, brilliantly polemical, amusing, and of course vastly learned. I congratulate him.”
—William F. Buckley Jr.

“With high style and light-hearted disdain, David Berlinski deflates the intellectual pretensions of the scientific atheist crowd. Maybe they can recite the Periodic Table by heart, but the secular Berlinski shows that this doesn’t get them very far in reasoning about much weightier matters.”
—Michael J. Behe, Professor of Biological Sciences, Lehigh University, bestselling author of Darwin’s Black Box and The Edge of Evolution

“David Berlinski plus any topic equals an extraordinary book.”
—Chicago Tribune

Product Description

Militant atheism is on the rise. Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris, Daniel Dennett, and Christopher Hitchens have dominated bestseller lists with books denigrating religious belief as dangerous foolishness. And these authors are merely the leading edge of a far larger movement–one that now includes much of the scientific community.

“The attack on traditional religious thought,” writes David Berlinski in The Devil’s Delusion, “marks the consolidation in our time of science as the single system of belief in which rational men and women might place their faith, and if not their faith, then certainly their devotion.”

A secular Jew, Berlinski nonetheless delivers a biting defense of religious thought. An acclaimed author who has spent his career writing about mathematics and the sciences, he turns the scientific community’s cherished skepticism back on itself, daring to ask and answer some rather embarrassing questions:

Has anyone provided a proof of God’s inexistence?
Not even close.

Has quantum cosmology explained the emergence of the universe or why it is here?
Not even close.

Have the sciences explained why our universe seems to be fine-tuned to allow for the existence of life?
Not even close.

Are physicists and biologists willing to believe in anything so long as it is not religious thought?
Close enough.

Has rationalism in moral thought provided us with an understanding of what is good, what is right, and what is moral?
Not close enough.

Has secularism in the terrible twentieth century been a force for good?
Not even close to being close.

Is there a narrow and oppressive orthodoxy of thought and opinion within the sciences?
Close enough.

Does anything in the sciences or in their philosophy justify the claim that religious belief is irrational?
Not even ballpark.

Is scientific atheism a frivolous exercise in intellectual contempt?
Dead on.

Berlinski does not dismiss the achievements of western science. The great physical theories, he observes, are among the treasures of the human race. But they do nothing to answer the questions that religion asks, and they fail to offer a coherent description of the cosmos or the methods by which it might be investigated.

This brilliant, incisive, and funny book explores the limits of science and the pretensions of those who insist it can be–indeed must be–the ultimate touchstone for understanding our world and ourselves.

Sightings and Investigations on West Coast

There are now three living-pterosaur investigations happening in at least two West Coast states of the U.S.. As far as I know, none of the persons involved have yet overlapped observations in those three locations; each location has its own team. Investigations #1 & #3 have one thing in common: A key point that got them started was non-team persons (not cryptozoologists) observing, in daylight, a large long-tailed featherless flying creature that suggested a ropen.

Investigation #1
The first involves cryptozoologists that included the late Scott Norman and his associates Garth Guessman, David Woetzel, and several others. The location is still secret. (see Newsletter #008)

Investigation #2
The second involves three or more men who have had at least one possible ropen sighting at another secret location. One creature flew about 30 feet above their heads, a little past midnight. The wingspan was about 4 feet. “The wings were almost the same as a bat. However it had a long neck and beak.” The creature flew too fast to be photographed. Here is the link:
Cryptozoology.com/blog/blog.php?id=7723

Investigation #3
My own investigation is of a sighting at a wildlife refuge in Southern California in August of 2007. I
will reveal the location in September of 2008. This third investigation involves an apparent ropen with
a length of about “30 feet.” This differs from the first two investigations in that I am not so much looking for the creatures as I am looking for more eyewitnesses of a featherless creature that was said to be flying, in daylight, near a city (but over a wetlands area) one year ago. Bat-Ropen Connection (Ropens Eat Bats)

I realize that this idea is not new to all of the active investigators: At least some of the creatures observed in the United States (creatures that suggest living pterosaurs) may be flying around with bats at night because they’re catching bats. Why else would American ropens be nocturnal?

In Papua New Guinea, the reefs provide much food for the ropen. The glow of the bioluminescent ropen may help them attract or see fish or see clams (both fish and clams are good protein sources). In the Western United States, it seems that a similar pterosaur-like creature uses bioluminescence while flying around bats; bats can be a good source of protein for large creatures.

Why did it take so long for these American pterosaurs to become investigated? Probably many eyewitnesses thought they were watching shooting stars. And when a large creature, on occasion, would be seen closer, flying with much smaller bats, how could an eyewitness convince anyone that a giant bat (or whatever) had been seen? Eyewitnesses have probably been extremely reluctant to talk.
Please consider what I’ve just written on this subject:bats_ropens

Two Ancient Drawings Show Man and Dinosaur Together

George S. kindly forwarded us the following e-mail about a drawing he thought we might find interesting. We do!

“I visited the Three rivers Pertoglyph site this spring, but didn’t have time to scrutinize the whole of it, so when I found someone had posted their pictures I took the time to peruse them.
They had one labled: “Impossible, but It sure looks to me like someone is hunting a dinosaur with a flaming club!” …and it does!!!! Wish I had found it! ”

There are over 21,000 petroglyphs at the Three Rivers Petroglyph Site at Three Rivers, New Mexico located midway between Tularosa and Carrizozo in Otero County on highway 54. Many of the petroglyphs can be easily viewed from a trail open to the public which winds through the rocks for about one mile. The petroglyphs are thought to be the product of the Jornada Mogollon people between about 1000 and 1400 AD. The site is protected and maintained by the Bureau of Land Management.

The petroglyphs at Three Rivers were recorded during a 6 year project by the Archaeological Society of New Mexico’s Rock Art Recording Field Schools. Photographs and records are on file at the Bureau of Land Management’s District Office in Las Cruces….Wikipedia

Here is the original site where a larger photo of the petroglyph –along with others–can be found

Man and Dinosaur Together in China

Previously, here, we noted the close similarity of the Ishtar Gate “Dragon”, (604-562 BC) to images of similar creatures from the Egyptians (2600 B.C. and older), the Han Dynasty (206 B.C. to 220 A.D.) as well as Tang Dynasty (618-906 A.D.)the Sung Dynasty (1127-1279A.D) and possibly others.

This was evidence that the creature was real and not mythological. The representations of the creature were consistent across time and geographical location. We had even offered some suggestions concerning it’s identification based on fossil dinosaur re-creations.

The drawing above is of a Han Dynasty Motif showing a man hunting this Egypto/Assyrian?Chinese dragon with what appears to be a sling or a bolo weapon. Further evidence, we believe that this was in fact a real creature.

Prehistoric Giant Animals Killed By Man, Not Climate: Study

Church of Darwin, Giants in Those Days, Science, Sophistication of Ancestors, Unexplained Artifact | Posted by Chris Parker
Aug 13 2008

SYDNEY (AFP) — The chance discovery of the remains of a prehistoric giant kangaroo has cast doubts on the long-held view that climate change drove it and other mega-fauna to extinction, a new study reveals.

The research, published this week in the US-based journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, argues that man likely hunted to death the giant kangaroo and other very large animals on the southern island of Tasmania.

The debate centres on the skull of a giant kangaroo found in a cave in the thick rainforest of the rugged northwest of Tasmania in 2000.

Scientists dated the find at 41,000 years old, some 2,000 years after humans first began to live in the area.

“Up until now, people thought that the Tasmanian mega-fauna had actually gone extinct before people arrived on the island,” a member of the British and Australian study, Professor Richard Roberts, told AFP Tuesday.

He said that it was likely that hunting killed off Tasmania’s mega-fauna — including the long-muzzled, 120 kilogram (264 pound) giant kangaroo, a rhinoceros-sized wombat and marsupial ‘lions’ which resembled leopards.

Roberts, from the University of Wollongong south of Sydney, said the idea that climate change could account for the death of the animals was disputed by the fact the area had a very stable climate in the critical time period.

“Things were very climatically stable in that part of Australia and yet the mega-fauna still managed to go extinct,” he said. “So it’s down to humans of one sort or another.”

Roberts said because the large animals were slow breeders, it would not have required an aggressive campaign to see them quickly die out.

“A lot of people still have in their minds an axe-wielding, spear-wielding people, bloodthirsty, out there slaughtering all over the place — it wasn’t like that at all,” he said.

“It was basically just one joey (baby kangaroo) in the pot for Christmas. And that’s all you’ve got to go to do to drive slow-breeding species to extinction.”

Roberts said the Tasmanian results back up the theory that man was responsible for the death of the mega-fauna on mainland Australia, estimated by some to have occurred shortly after human occupation about 46,000 years ago.

The reasons behind the mass extinction of giant animals, which took place around the world towards the end of the last ice age, has been hotly contested with theories ranging from climate change to human and extraterrestrial impacts.

The finding of the latest study has already been contested, with Judith Field of the University of Sydney saying the idea that humans killed the giant creatures was “in the realms of speculative fantasy”.

“Humans cannot even be placed at the scene,” she told the Sydney Morning Herald. …..Google News

Rock Solid Proof of Dinosaur Human Interaction?

The Cretaceous Limestone block contains a human footprint overlaid with a dinosaur print.

“In early July, 2000 Alvis Delk, assisted by James Bishop (both of Stephenville, Texas), was working in the Cretaceous limestone on the McFall property at the Paluxy River near Glen Rose, Texas and discovered a pristine human footprint intruded by a dinosaur footprint.

This discovery was made in the vicinity of McFall I and II Sites where the Creation Evidence Museum team has excavated since the Spring of 1982. The eleven-inch human footprint matches seven other such footprints of the same dimensions in the “Sir George Series”, named in honor of His Excellency Governor General Ratu Sir George Cacobau of Fiji.

Scientific Verification of Footprint Authenticity:

The fossil was transported to a professional laboratory where 800 X-rays were performed in a CT Scan procedure. Laboratory technicians verified compression and distribution features clearly seen in both prints, human and dinosaur. This removes any possibility that the prints were carved or altered.” … CREATION EVIDENCE MUSEUM

The human footprint was apparently overlaid by the dinosaur print but it really doesn’t matter; no human prints should be found in the Cretaceous, a period according to science that ranged from 145.5 million to 65 million years ago. According to evolutionary theory, the first “fossil hominid” didn’t appear until at least 60 million years from the end of the Cretaceous…s8int.com

In 1982 the discovery of the “Arjan tomb,” a rich burial deep in the Zagros mountains of southern Iran. Brought to light a number of precious and non-precious metal objects. When the first detailed description of the tomb and its contents appeared in English in 1985 the bronze bowl was merely described as a “large shallow bowl…..ulaantaij.com

This ancient, possibly Assyrian or Elamite “bowl” manufactured as long ago as 800 B.C. is ringed around its circumference with a variety of graphics called registers. These graphics depict various aspects of ancient life.

One of the registers depicts hunters, soldiers and other men engaged in hunting and other practices at an ancient marsh.

Much has been written and speculated about concerning the various ancient graphics; indeed several have written doctoral dissertations concerning various aspects of the artifact.

Here at s8int.com, there was a primary question about one of the registers that immediately came to mind; —”hey, what’s that thing peeking out from beind those ancient ferns!”.(That’s how we talk)

Here’s a hint:

Behemoth

Job 40:15-24, “Look at the behemoth, which I made along with you and which feeds on grass like an ox. What strength he has in his loins, what power in the muscles of his belly! His tail sways like a cedar; the sinews of his thighs are close-knit. His bones are tubes of bronze, his limbs like rods of iron. He ranks first among the works of God, yet his Maker can approach him with his sword. The hills bring him their produce, and all the wild animals play nearby.

Under the lotus plants he lies, hidden among the reeds in the marsh. The lotuses conceal him in their shadow; the poplars by the stream surround him. When the river rages, he is not alarmed; he is secure, though the Jordan should surge against his mouth. Can anyone capture him by the eyes, or trap him and pierce his nose?”

Debunking the “150 Million Year Old Reptile” Ichthyosaur Mythology

Photo: This “dolphin shaped ceramic from Eretria, 310 B.C., shares an important morphological characteristic with the ichthyosaurs; 4 fins.

“The earliest dolphins appeared in the late Miocene period, some 11 million years ago. The land animals that are closest to whales and dolphins are the Ungulates (hoofed animals). This was determined among others by comparing the structure of body proteins. The closest relative is probably the hippopotamus”(Ursing and Arnason, 1998).”

That foregoing statement divides the world into three groups; those who are so “smart” that they have to believe it, (like PH’D’s) those who are gullible enough to believe something like that and –the rest of us. Thankfully, a majority of us still resist the evolution religion and are in the third group.

This article is ostensibly not about dolphins and whales but rather is about creatures that science has named “ichthyosaurs”, (fish-reptiles) and how they became classified by science as reptiles, unrelated to whales and dolphins, who supposedly died out more than 95 million years ago—some 85 million years prior to the evolution of dolphins who they most resemble morphologically.

In this brief article, I believe that we can show that there is; scant evidence that Ichthyosaurs were reptiles, or at least we can demonstrate that there is more evidence to show that they were Not reptiles, and that they did not become extinct millions of years ago and thus; are not an example of “convergent evolution”.

In addition, I intend to show that they were as you might expect, closely related to the Cetaceans like dolphins and porpoises….
