This photo made available by the Shalem Center shows pieces of pottery discovered in Jerusalem’s City of David. Artifacts including pottery shards and arrowheads found during an excavation to rescue a tower and a wall which were in danger of collapse suggest, according to Israeli archaeologists that the wall is from the 5th century B.C., the time of Nehemiah. (AP)—A wall mentioned in the Bible’s Book of Nehemiah and long sought by archaeologists apparently has been found, an Israeli archaeologist says. A team of archaeologists discovered the wall in Jerusalem’s ancient City of David during a rescue attempt on a tower that was in danger of collapse, said Eilat Mazar, head of the Institute of Archaeology at the Shalem Center, a Jerusalem-based research and educational institute, and leader of the dig.Artifacts including pottery shards and arrowheads found under the tower suggested that both the tower and the nearby wall are from the 5th century B.C., the time of Nehemiah, Mazar said this week.

Scholars previously thought the wall dated to the Hasmonean period from about 142 B.C. to 37 B.C. The findings suggest that the structure was actually part of the same city wall the Bible says Nehemiah rebuilt, Mazar said. The Book of Nehemiah gives a detailed description of construction of the walls, destroyed earlier by the Babylonians.

“We were amazed,” she said, noting that the discovery was made at a time when many scholars argued that the wall did not exist.

“This was a great surprise. It was something we didn’t plan,” Mazar said.

The first phase of the dig, completed in 2005, uncovered what Mazar believes to be the remains of King David’s palace, built by King Hiram of Tyre, and also mentioned in the Bible.

Ephraim Stern, professor emeritus of archaeology at Hebrew University and chairman of the state of Israel archaeological council, offered support for Mazar’s claim.

“The material she showed me is from the Persian period,” the period of Nehemiah, he said. “I can sign on the date of the material she found.”

However, another scholar disputed the significance of the discovery.Israel Finkelstein, professor of archaeology at Tel Aviv University, called the discovery “an interesting find,” but said the pottery and other artifacts do not indicate that the wall was built in the time of Nehemiah. Because the debris was not connected to a floor or other structural part of the wall, the wall could have been built later, Finkelstein said.

“The wall could have been built, theoretically, in the Ottoman period,” he said. “It’s not later than the pottery – that’s all we know.”

Interview with World Famous, Former Atheist, Antony Flew on His New Book, “There is A God”

Anthony Flew: There were two factors in particular that were decisive.  One was my growing empathy with the insight of Einstein and other noted scientists that there had to be an Intelligence behind the integrated complexity of the physical Universe. The second was my own insight that the integrated complexity of life itself – which is far more complex than the physical Universe – can only be explained in terms of an Intelligent Source.  I believe that the origin of life and reproduction simply cannot be explained from a biological standpoint despite numerous efforts to do so.  With every passing year, the more that was discovered about the richness and inherent intelligence of life, the less it seemed likely that a chemical soup could magically generate the genetic code.  The difference between life and non-life, it became apparent to me, was ontological and not chemical.

The best confirmation of this radical gulf is Richard Dawkins’ comical effort to argue in The God Delusion that the origin of life can be attributed to a “lucky chance.” If that’s the best argument you have, then the game is over.  No, I did not hear a Voice.  It was the evidence itself that led me to this conclusion.

Solving the Whole Crystal Skull “Mystery” Thing

Amusing?, s8int.com, Science, Sophistication of Ancestors, Uncategorized, Unexplained Artifact | Posted by Chris Parker

One of the ancient mysteries I’ve recently been working on is; what’s the least watchable sport–soccer or bowling? You’re right, trick question. Bowling is not a sport.

Speaking of objects with finger holes (bowling balls), I’ve also been looking into the ancient mysteries posed by the crystal skulls phenomenon.

What’s less interesting; stories about professional bowlers with an edge-like they wear sunglasses inside, or mystical properties of crystal skulls like-oh, its eyes follow me everywhere or they interfere with my cable reception? Answer:its a tie.

Let’s face it though, if s8int.com had a decent editor, this article wouldn’t have gotten published, certainly not in its present form, or it probably wouldn’t have even been commissioned. On the other hand, how much did you have to pay for it? I will say I think I’ve reached some startling conclusions supported by evidence here, though even so I’m using the website byline on it, and not my full name.

Okay, so here it is:

The Setup:

“The most widely celebrated and mysterious crystal skull is the Mitchell-Hedges Skull, for at least two good reasons.

First, it is very similar in form to an actual human skull, even featuring a fitted removable jawbone. Most known crystal skulls are of a more stylized structure, often with unrealistic features and teeth that are simply etched onto a single skull piece.

Second, it is impossible to say how the Mitchell-Hedges skull was constructed. From a technical standpoint, it appears to be an impossible object which today’s most talented sculptors and engineers would be unable to duplicate.

Evolution; The Stones Cry Out; Part 2 (Petrification)

  PART I of this Article

“When he came near the place where the road goes down the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of disciples began joyfully to praise God in loud voices for all the miracles they had seen: “Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!” “Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!” Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Jesus, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples!”"I tell you,” he replied, “if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out.” …..Luke19

In my last article, I looked at the evidence that had been locked in stone that proved that what we’d been taught about the ages of men and animals on earth had been at best inaccurate. In another recent s8int.com article, it was alleged that petrified human giants had been discovered in the Grand Canyon near the end of the 19th century.

I also thought of Ed Conrad, a gentleman who has been battling the Atheists and materialists for years over his supposed human and animal petrified finds in Pennsylvania coal mines. Some of his discoveries, including a giant, petrified human skull have been featured in the pages of s8int.com.

In this second part of The Stones Cry Out I took another look back in time through the pages of old newspapers and magazines to see if they reveal anything about other alleged “impossible” petrified finds in coal or other supposedly millions of years old formations.

What we found surprised even us, including a cave found with large petrified men along with drawings of men battling gigantic animals, and yes we found other stories about petrified giants.

We can only share a small fraction of all we found here but its clear that there is much that has been forgotten.

The difference between fossilized and petrified?

“It can be a little confusing. A fossil is any evidence of life that has been preserved in rock. So fossils include not just organisms themselves, but also the burrows, marks and footprints they left behind. Fossilization is the name for a number of processes that produce fossils. One of those processes is mineral replacement.

This is common in sedimentary and some metamorphic rocks, where a mineral grain may be replaced by material with a different composition, bur still preserving the original shape. When a fossil organism is subjected to mineral replacement, it is said to be petrified.

For example, petrified wood may be replaced with chalcedony, or shells replaced with pyrite. This means that out of all fossils, only the creature itself could be fossilized by petrification. And not all fossil organisms are petrified. Some are preserved as carbonized films, or preserved unchanged like recent fossil shells, or fixed in amber like fossil insects.

Scientists don’t use the word “petrified” much. What we call petrified wood, they’d rather call fossil wood. But “petrified” has a nice sound and I like to hear it. It sounds right for a fossil of something familiar that looks lifelike (like a tree trunk)…..About.com

Three Out of Four Evolutionary Scientists Disagree

Church of Darwin, Science, Uncategorized | Posted by Chris Parker
Nov 05 2007

“I want to pause here and talk about this notion of consensus, and the rise of what has been called consensus science. I regard consensus science as an extremely pernicious development that ought to be stopped cold in its tracks.

Historically, the claim of consensus has been the first refuge of scoundrels; it is a way to avoid debate by claiming that the matter is already settled. Whenever you hear the consensus of scientists agrees on something or other, reach for your wallet, because you’re being had.

Let’s be clear: the work of science has nothing whatever to do with consensus. Consensus is the business of politics. Science, on the contrary, requires only one investigator who happens to be right, which means that he or she has results that are verifiable by reference to the real world.

In science consensus is irrelevant. What is relevant is reproducible results. The greatest scientists in history are great precisely because they broke with the consensus. There is no such thing as consensus science. If it’s consensus, it isn’t science. If it’s science, it isn’t consensus. Period.”Michael Crichton

Ancient Cataclysm Rearranged Pacific Map, Study Says

National Geographic, October 24, 2007

”In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened.” Genesis 7:11

Cataclysm

The cataclysm is the Greek expression for the Biblical Great Flood of Noah, from the Greek kataklysmos, to ‘wash down’ (‘kluzein’ wash – ‘kata’ down’). Erudite Bible studies drew it into the English language in 1633 and it has also been used to describe other biblical events such as the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah or The tenth plague of Egypt.

The modern usage of cataclysm is mostly confined to geological phenomena of high significance such as the destruction of Pompeii, the Tunguska event, 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake or the Comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 collision with Jupiter

Julian Ryall for National Geographic News

A cataclysm 50 million years ago changed the face of the planet from the Hawaiian Islands to Antarctica, according to new research.

The collapse of an underwater mountain range in the Pacific Ocean turned Australia into a warm and sunny continent instead of a snowbound wasteland and created some of the islands that dot the South Pacific today.

“We have found that the destruction of an entire mid-ocean ridge, known as the Izanagi Ridge, initiated a chain reaction of geological events,” said Joanne Whittaker, a doctoral student at the University of Sydney’s School of Geosciences who led the research.
