We’ve translated this article from the Italian. Another translation that readers may find useful—used for ceremonial; funereal; ritualistic; shamanistic etc. purposes -often means; “we don’t know what it was used for”…

In the first wing of the Egyptian Museum of the Cairo between two rooms close to the Momias Room, one cannot help but be surprised to see in a small display cabinet, although not without some difficulty caused by the reflections of the light on the crystal that covers it, a solitary object similar to a wheel or stone disc.

This strange object has disturbed and continues disturbing all the Egyptologists that have had occasion to study it at great length. The first of them was its discoverer, Brian Walter Emery, one of the most important Egyptologists of 20th Century and the author of a classic volume on Egyptology, Archaic Egypt, that continues to be, after many years, an important bibliographical reference for the study and an understanding of the origins of the Old Egyptian Civilization.

Making excavations in 1936, in the archaeological zone of Sakkara, he discovered the Tomb of Prince Sabu. He was the son of Adjuib Pharaoh, governor of the I Dynasty (3,000 B.C.).

Between utensils of funeral objects that were extracted, Emeryテ「竄ャ邃「s attention was powerfully drawn by an object that he initially defined in his report on the Great Tombs of the I Dynasty as: “… a container in the form of schist bowl…”.

Years later, in his previously mentioned work, Archaic Egypt, commented on the object in a way perfectly summarizes the reality of the situation and the discomfort the object causes; “cachibache” (a small hole that threatens to become a much larger hole)”…

A satisfactory explanation has not yet been obtained on the peculiar design of this object…”.

On more than one occasionテつhere at we’ve been the recipient of some shall we call them smart alec-kyテつremarks or challenges. One we remember specifically was “how can you guys believe in a literal ark?テつWhere did Noah findテつpolar bears and penquins in the desert of Palestine”?テつ

Well Alec, we replied, smart as you are you still seem to be a bit misinformed about aテつ few things. Firstly,テつwe do not believe that scripture gives the actual physical location from which Noah launched the ark–so your assumption about it being the “desert” of Palestine is likely incorrect. Secondly, even if it had been Palestine,テつif the Bible account isテつtrue, it still would not likely have been a desert.

Finally, regarding the polar bears and penquins; it would not have been necessary for a polar bear to have been aboard the ark. It would only have beenテつnecessary that a pair of “bears” be aboard the ark. God built in a great deal of genetic variation within each species so that they could adapt to their environments.テつThus, it would not have been necessary for German Sheperds, for exampleテつto have been aboard the ark for them to exist today–however, if there were a pair of dogs aboard, then the wolves, foxes, beagles, dingoes, German Shepherdsテつetc. etc. could still have come along.

You see,テつAlec, theテつcold loving polar bears and penquins are simply, likeテつthe GermanテつShepherd, a variation within their species who have adapted to the cold or who have been intentionally bred. They are still only bears and penquins and surely there are variations of both species who might enjoy a liitle warm weather as well…s8int.comテつ

Giant Penquins Liked it Hot

ByテつテつJeanna Bryner, LiveScience Staff Writer

Huge and distant cousins of todayテ「竄ャ邃「s ice-loving penguins might have basked in a warm climate along the Peruvian coast more than 30 million years ago, fossils of two extinct penguin species suggest.

One of the ancient birds sported a seven-inch beak and stood at five feet tall, which would have dwarfed even the heavyweights of today, the Emperor penguins. Currently, 17 penguin species inhabit the globe, ranging in size from the two-pound, 16-inch little blue penguin to the 84-pound, 4.3-foot Emperor penguin.

The skeletal bones and two complete skulls suggest the warm-weather penguins were deep divers and could テ「竄ャナ吐lyテ「竄ャツ through the water with the grace of their modern kin, scooping up fish along the way.

The findings, detailed online this week in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, call into question the established idea that penguins evolved in high latitudes and didnテ「竄ャ邃「t waddle close to the equator until about 10 million years agoテ「竄ャ窶挈ong after Earth cooled significantly.

テ「竄ャナ展e tend to think of penguins as being cold-adapted species,テ「竄ャツ said lead study author Julia Clarke, a paleontologist at North Carolina State University and the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences. テ「竄ャナ釘ut the new fossils date back to one of the warmest periods in the last 65 million years of Earthテ「竄ャ邃「s history. The evidence indicates that penguins reached low-latitude regions more than 30 million years prior to our previous estimates.テ「竄ャツ

テ「竄ャナ展e had known from isolated bones and limited material an array of giant penguin species from high-latitude regions,テ「竄ャツ Clarke told LiveScience, テ「竄ャナ澱ut none from low latitudes.テ「竄ャツ

Penguin evolution

Clarke and her colleagues studied remains from two new, extinct penguin species that had been discovered in 2005 along the southern coast of Peru. The giant penguin, Icadyptes salasi lived about 36 million years ago. The second species, Perudyptes devriesi, was 2.5 to 3 feet tall and represents one of the oldest known penguin species, living about 42 million years ago.

Unlike living penguin species, the ancient, oversized birds had long, narrow beaks, with Perudyptes having an exceptionally long and spear-like beak, which Clarke said likely helped the animal gulp down large prey and attain its towering stature.

Perudyptes had features indicating a transition from wing to paddle. For instance, the giant penguinテ「竄ャ邃「s wing muscles were reduced compared with flight-able birds, テ「竄ャナ努hich basically are part of the changes to get to a paddle-like structure–you reduce these intrinsic wing muscles,テ「竄ャツ Clarke said.

To find out how the penguins landed in low-latitude regions, the scientists examined the geographic distribution and evolutionary relationships of other extinct penguins.

The results suggest the two Peruvian species result from separate dispersals, with the ancestors of Perudyptes dwelling in Antarctica before their equator-bound trek and Icadyptes originating near New Zealand.

Warming up

A picture of Peruvian penguins hanging out on the beach make some people wonder if todayテ「竄ャ邃「s cold-adapted penguins would bask in the effects of global warming. Not so, Clarke warns.

テ「竄ャナ展e are not by these findings implying that extant penguins will not be affected by current global warming. These Peruvian species are early branches off the penguin family tree, that are comparatively distant cousins of living penguins,テ「竄ャツ Clarke said. テ「竄ャナ的n addition, current global warming is occurring on a significantly shorter timescale. The data from these new fossil species cannot be used to argue that warming wouldnテ「竄ャ邃「t negatively impact living penguins.テ「竄ャツ

The study was funded by the National Science Foundation Office of International Science and Engineering and the National Geographic Society.

When you hear that science has discovered a new collection of “prehistoric” art, what’s the first thing you look for?

Right! Dinosaurs! Umm, Right?

That’s because (if you’re a Christian) you know that all the animals on dry land were taken aboard the ark at the time of the great flood and thus all were around (including dinosaurs)at least directly after the great flood. (Dinosaurs, like most reptiles grow every year of their lives but hatch from eggs–so Noah would have taken the smaller juveniles aboard.)

That would mean that from time to time people living in the past would probably have represented “dinosaurs” in their art just as they represented other creatures in their environments.

If on the other hand, you believe “science”, then you accept as fact that man and dinosaur missed each other by millions of years. This we’ve tried to disprove in this section by showing that those creatures were indeed included in the art of ancient peoples.

A friend of’s, Mathew T. noted in an article about the discovery of “prehistoric” art at Vogelherd Cave in Germany that among the very exquisite pieces representing an equine, a lion figure and a mammoth, were also two that remained “unidentified”.

Mathew investigated further and passed along an interesting picture or two.

One of them is shown at an interesting angle, perhaps calculated to obscure what the piece actually depicts. More likely, we’re just being paranoid. As usual, one will just have to make up his or her own mind.

Read the Bible!

But, if you have a bit more time on your hands, then “The Days of Peleg”, by Jon Saboe is a must read!

テつThis is a great book! I can’t imagine the time it took Jon just for the research that went into this great first novel, never mind the time it took toテつactually write the nearly 600 page historical piece.

Ourテつsympathies go outテつto his wife Valory.

We’re not sure what we do well here at, but one thing we’re sure we don’t do well is book reviews. One measure I canテつgive about how much I enjoyed this page turner is that I have repeatedly had to repent from the sin of covetousness (hugging myself and imagining I’d wrote it).

The scope of the novel is epic, spanning the time from a few hundred years after the great flood to the time God begin to set aside a people for Himself.

It was great fun discovering the books’ intersection with the Bible and with elements of high technology or anomalous ancient events covered here at and other places. I read copious amounts of science fiction as a child and young adult but at the center of those sometimes greatテつstories was the sense that man was preeminentテつin the universe. In Jon’s book the characters rediscover that God is preeminent.

Mr. Saboe has written aテつstirring, fun, engrossing, scripturally sound andテつthought provokingテつbook with extensive footnoting for those who might want to dig deeper.テつテつCongratulations Jon, it’s a great book. You should be very proud of it. (I know I was when imagining I wrote it :0) )

I will now turn the reviewing over to the professionals over at Jon’s website, where you can purchase the book and obtain signed copies from the author;

Pelegテ「竄ャ邃「s core beliefs are challenged and his sense of reality is undermined by the new cultures and tremendous tragedies he encounters during his twelve-year voyage. But he has also been given a secret mission to discover the answer to the one question that no one dares to ask aloud: Why is the human race dying?テつWhat he discovers forces Peleg to re-evaluate all he has ever knownテ「竄ャ窶拌nd also provides him with staggering revelations that will determine the eternal destiny of the entire human race!テつAbout The Days of Pelegテつ

The Art of Science: Giant “Bird Like” Dinosaur Discovered

Church of Darwin,, Science, Uncategorized | Posted by Chris Parker

A recent science article was outlined thusly; “Neanderthals” probably didn’t suffer from schizophrenia and other mental disorders because they probably lacked the cognitive complexities of modern humans”.

Oh? Perhaps they (these authors) missed the results of the sequencing of Neanderthal DNA whose results were announced earlier this year: Neanderthal” DNA is identical to “modern mans” DNA. How do you conclude that humans with the same DNA as ours nevertheless had inferior mental capabilities?

One reason that this myth exists and persists is because of the “scientific” artist representations that accompany scientific articles and discoveries. Below are two artist representations of Neanderthal.テつThe Neanderthal child is obviously more modern but if it had beenテつthe illustration used when Neanderthal was first mentioned in the scientific literature,テつ itテつwould have shaped the way we think of Neanderthal.

This week it was announced that Chinese scientists had discovered a huge “bird like” dinosaur. With respect to the skull, there are at least some superficial resemblances to birds. However, the artists have really been allowed to let their imaginations go as far as their representation of the creatures. There is in fact absolutely nothing scientific about the representation of feathers on this dinosaur. One could almost say that the feathers are a whimsical addition. They are apparently meant to prop up theテつweak “evolutionary” connection betweenテつ dinosaurs and birds.

Perhaps they missed theテつresults of a study by other scientistsテつrevealed in an article enititled テつテつ“Dinosaur feathers are no such thing” テつ that even that which had been thought to possibly be evidence of feathers on some dinosaurs was more likely dermal collagen.

In this case, in China, there was nothing that anyone could even suspect were feathers and they still had the artist include them. There is nothing to say that a drawing showing the dinosaur with hoop earrings would have been any less accurate.

Gigantic bird-like dinosaur found in Chinaテつ

BEIJING, June 14 (Xinhua) — Chinese archaeologists have discovered a the remains of gigantic bird-like dinosaur in the Gobi Desert in north China’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, which could overturn theories that dinosaurs became generally smaller as they evolved into birds.テつ

The animal, named gigantoraptor erlianensis, is believed to have been about eight meters in length, weighed 1,400 kg, and stood up to five meters high.テつ

Chinese archaeologists said that despite its enormous size, gigantoraptor erlianensis belonged to the oviraptorosauria, a group of smaller, feathered animals.テつ

In light of its size, the researchers performed two different tests to confirm that it belonged to the oviraptorosaur family.テつ

“The analyses strongly supported the oviraptorosaur affinity of gigantoraptor erlianensis and suggested this new dinosaur was in an intermediate position in oviraptorosaurian evolution,” Xu Xing, a researcher with the Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleon anthropology with the Chinese Academy of Sciences.テつ

Researchers found that gigantoraptor erlianensis possessed many features unknown in other dinosaurs, such as highly specialized caudal vertebrae and the bizarre humerus, suggesting that morphological diversity among the dinosaurs is higher than previously known.テつ

Xu said normally when dinosaurs become so large, they had proportionally stouter limbs and shorter lower legs than their smaller relatives. However, gigantoraptor erlianensis has much more slender limbs and longer lower legs than similarly-sized theropods, suggesting that it might have been adapted for running.テつ

Early archaeological study has shown that in their evolution into birds, dinosaurs become smaller in size and within each dinosaur group smaller species are normally more bird-like than their larger relatives.テつ

But Chinese archaeologists said gigantoraptor erlianensis is more bird-like than its small relatives in many features such as a longer arm and a more bird-like leg.テつ

“This suggests that there are different underlying mechanisms along the line to birds in theropod evolution,” Xu said.テつ

Chinese researchers also found that the one-and-half-ton gigantoraptor erlianensis had no teeth, but was beaked dinosaur.テつ

Gigantoraptor’s diet remains unknown, but it shows both herbivorous features (such as small head and long neck) and carnivorous features (such as sharp claws).テつ

Other oviraptorosaurs are believed to have been plant-eaters, egg-eaters, mollusc-eaters, and meat-eaters according to various studies.テつ

Researchers deducted that the animal probably died in its 11th year based on the growth lines preserved in the fibular bone.テつ

They also inferred that the animal reached maturity within seven years and was still relatively young at the time of death.テつ

The bird-like dinosaur fossil was discovered in 2005 at Erlian Basin, known for its dinosaur fossils and other vertebrate fossils.テつ

The dissertation on gigantoraptor erlianensis will be published in Nature on June 14.テつ

Ryan Begley, Indiana Teen, Encounters Giant Bird in His Backyard

Graphic: Illustration

Jun, 2, 2007:

Okay, the only reason I joined this site is to get my story out in the open to people who might believe me.

Here’s what happened: I woke up about 6 a.m on june 2nd. I live in Lawrence Township of Indianapolis, IN. That’s all I feel safe divulging for the moment. The sun was just starting to come up and I was fixing breakfast. I let my dog outside to pee and went to use the bathroom myself. The bathroom window faces my backyard.

The lights in the bathroom were off because the sun was starting to shine through.

While I was washing my hands the sun was blocked out for a moment, like something ran in front of my window. I looked out and briefly saw something black run behind my garage.

Dinosaurs Died Agonizing Deaths: Asphyxiation?, Science, The Flood of Noah, Uncategorized, Unexplained Artifact | Posted by Chris Parker

And the waters prevailed exceedingly upon the earth; and all the high hills, that were under the whole heaven, were covered. Fifteen cubits upward did the waters prevail; and the mountains were covered. And all flesh died that moved upon the earth, both of fowl, and of cattle, and of beast, and of every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth, and every man: All in whose nostrils was the breath of life, of all that was in the dry land, died. Gen 7テつ

asphyxia (テニ痴fテツュkテ「竄ャヒ徭テ窶愿俄┐) , deficiency of oxygen and excess of carbon dioxide in the blood and body tissues. Asphyxia, often referred to as suffocation, usually results from an interruption of breathing due to mechanical blockage of the breathing passages, paralysis of the respiratory muscles following electric shock, inundation of the lungs as may occur with pneumonia or DROWNING

Drown テ「竄ャ窶 to die from Asphyxia due to submersion in a liquid medium

LiveScience Sat. June 9 Fossilized dinosaurs often have wide-open mouths, heads thrown back and tails that curve toward the head. Paleontologists have long assumed the dinosaurs died in water and the currents drifted the bones into that position, or that rigor mortis or drying muscles, tendons and ligaments contorted the limbs.

テ「竄ャナ的テ「竄ャ邃「m テ「竄ャナ的テ「竄ャ邃「m reading this in the literature and thinking, テ「竄ャヒ弋his doesnテ「竄ャ邃「t make any sense to me as a veterinarian,テ「竄ャ邃「テ「竄ャツ said Cynthia Marshall Faux, a veterinarian-turned-paleontologist at the Museum of the Rockies.

テ「竄ャナ的テ「竄ャ邃「m reading this in the literature and thinking, テ「竄ャヒ弋his doesnテ「竄ャ邃「t make any sense to me as a veterinarian,テ「竄ャ邃「テ「竄ャツ said Cynthia Marshall Faux, a veterinarian-turned-paleontologist at the Museum of the Rockies.

Faux and a colleague say brain damage and asphyxiation are the more likely culprits.

A classic example of the posture, which has puzzled paleontologists for ages, is the 150-million-year-old Archaeopteryx, the first-known example of a feathered dinosaur and the proposed link between dinosaurs and present-day birds.(SIC)

テ「竄ャナ天irtually all articulated specimens of Archaeopteryx are in this posture, exhibiting a classic pose of head thrown back, jaws open, back and tail reflexed backward and limbs contracted,テ「竄ャツ said Kevin Padian, professor of integrative biology and curator in the Museum of Paleontology at the University of California, Berkeley. He Faux (pronounced テ「竄ャナ擢oxテ「竄ャツ) published their findings this week in the journal Paleobiology.

Some animals found in this posture may have suffocated in ash during a volcanic eruption, consistent with the fact that many fossils are found in ash deposits, Faux and Padian said. But many other possibilities exist, including disease, brain trauma, severe bleeding, thiamine deficiency or poisoning.

テ「竄ャナ典his puts a whole new light on the mode of death of these animals, and interpretation of the places they died in,テ「竄ャツ Padian said. テ「竄ャナ典his explanation gives us clues to interpreting a great many fossil horizons we didnテ「竄ャ邃「t understand before and tells us something dinosaurs experienced while dying, not after dying.テ「竄ャツ

Also, because the posture has been seen only in dinosaurs, pterosaurs and mammals, which are known or suspected to have had high metabolic rates, it appears to be a good indicator that the animal was warm blooded, as other research has suggested. Animals with lower metabolic rates, such as crocodiles and lizards, use less oxygen and so might have been less traumatically affected by hypoxia during death throes, Padian said.

Padian acknowledged that many dinosaur fossils show signs that the animal died in water and the current tugged the body into an arched position, but currents cannot explain all the characteristics of an opisthotonic pose.

The Tang Dynasty (Chinese: テ・窶敖静ヲナ督; Pinyin: Tテδ。ng Chテδ。o) (18 June 618 テ「竄ャ窶 4 June 907 AD) was preceded by the Sui Dynasty and followed by the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms Period in China. The dynasty was founded by the Li (テヲツ敘ス) family, who seized opportunity in the decline and collapse of the Sui Empire. The dynasty was interrupted briefly by the Second Zhou Dynasty (16 October 690 テ「竄ャ窶 3 March 705) when Empress Wu Zetian seized the throne (the first and only Chinese Empress to rule in her own right).テつテつ

At its height in the 7th and early part of the 8th century, the Tang Dynasty was the most powerful empire in the world. The Tang Dynasty, with its capital at Chang’an (present-day Xi’an), the most populous city in the world at the time, is regarded by historians as a high point in Chinese civilization テ「竄ャ窶 equal to or surpassing that of the Han Dynasty – as well as a golden age of cosmopolitan culture. Its territory, acquired through the military campaigns of its early rulers, was greater than that of the Han period, and rivaled that of the later Yuan Dynasty and Qing Dynasty.
