This the 39th page of this section, dealing with evidence that dinosaurs existed in the past with man. We’ve been doing that by looking for such evidence in the literature, art and history of the past.

For believers, the surprise should not be that we have actually found such evidence; we would instead have been surprised if we had not found such evidence. But what about those who accept the current scientific position that man and dinosaur missed each other by millions of years?

If someone like that perused each of these 39 pages, could they still believe that the paradigm is true? Of course they do! I’m not sure that anyone who takes that view could actually make it through the full section—but if they did—and still remain unconvinced…

I’d venture to say from the mail we recieve that there are believers who have muddled through these pages and still don’t believe.

The non-believers knock down each example one by one and convince themselves still that there is no evidence that man and dinosaur co-existed. As an example, the obvious stegosaurus at Angkor Wat has been described as simply a rhino with plants in the background.

Oh, well, maybe by page 40 they will all have been won over. Of course, if they are unconvinced by Genesis…

How to Dinosaur Hunt

Step 1. Assume the Bible is true. This means that “dinosaurs” were created with man. This means that along with artifacts of other animals that lived with man-you’re going to find evidence for these animals as well; if the Bible is true and if they are not concealed from you for some reason. We looked for them in the ancient art of ancient people, recognizing that the pieces are often labeled; zoomorphic, mythological, unknown, fabulous, grotesque or dragon.

But, don’t get it twisted. If there had been 100 foot plus dinosaurs (from head to tail) running around in ancient times it would have been unconcealable–and this wouldn’t be an issue.

On the other hand, there is no evidence of dragonflies with 2 foot wingspans, or armadillos the size of a Volkswagon or of an 8 foot roly poly, either. Yet fossilized animals of this size and type have been found. See the MegaFuana section beginning here. There was a period of giantism for many animals that still live today.

We believe that there was a time before the flood when conditions for life on earth were perfect. After death entered the picture and especially after the flood these animals, including dinosaurs still lived but were not nearly as large and robust as they had been under perfect conditions.

The dinosaurs we see in ancient art were probably only a shadow of their former selves. –But look–don’t quote us on that. It’s just how we reconcile the Bible, the fossil record and the occasional, spectacular example of the animals we call dinosaurs in ancient and near current era art.

Our Feature

This Ancient Chinese piece cannot be anything but a sauropod dinosaur. The artist has clearly seen one and what is more had plenty of time to study it. Not only that, if you think about the fact that many of the objects on these pages have been stylized, as indeed this one has—its a technique that would only be effective with subjects with which both the artist and the art viewer are very familiar.

And, for those who like or need to debunk, it does have those little wings, which could temp one to insist that its simply a mythological creature, however those same little wings appear on many obviously real creatures such as the Han tiger above. We believe tigers actually existed!

Experts look for ‘Watery Kingdom’

The forest can been seen at low tide in Cardigan Bay

Scientists are to carry out an underwater search for a supposed kingdom in Cardigan Bay said to have existed more than 5,000 years ago.

Legend has it that the low-lying land of Cantre’r Gwaelod disappeared under the waves during a storm or a tsunami.

Experts say the remains of an ancient forest seen sometimes at low tide is evidence that Cantre’r Gwaelod existed. Conservation group Friends of Cardigan Bay will begin the three-year project in Ceredigion this summer.

The oldest part of the submerged forest is thought to date back to 3500 BC, although other sections, at Borth, near Aberystwyth, are believed to date back to 1500 BC. It can be seen from near Aberystwyth to Aberdyfi and Tywyn up the coast in Gwynedd.

The lost civilisation of Cantre’r Gwaelod – or Lowland Hundred in English – was protected from the sea by a series of dykes and sluice gates. One stormy night, legend has it that the appointed watchman Seithennin, a heavy drinker, was at a party and left the water gates open, the land flooded and disappeared under crashing waves.

Phil Hughes, chairman of the Friends of Cardigan Bay, said: “There is a lot of evidence to suggest that Cantre’r Gwaelod existed and I believe there was land out there. “It will be the first time that it would have been seriously researched from an ecological point of view. “The make-up of the area would have provided a natural barrier against raiders and shelter from the weather.”

Mr Hughes said the most obvious sign that Cantre’r Gwaelod existed were the trees stumps that poked out of the water at low tide. He added: “The primary aim of the project is to study the ecology of the sea bed in the area.

“We expect the project will last two to three years because the area measures some seven nautical miles.”

This piece is a replica of a Han Dynasty, bronze cooking vessel. The Han Dynasty spanned the period of between approximately 200 B.C. to 220 A.D..

“Chinese Bronze has long been considered a treasure from ancient times.

Dating back to 4000 years ago, Chinese bronzes were not only the daily utensils, work tools and weapons of the people of ancient times, but also exquisite works of master craftsmen, which have been handed down from generation to generation. The study of Chinese bronze usually spans an extensive period of time, up to the end of the Han Dynasty (220 AD)”.

To our eyes, this piece features one of the hadrosaurine dinosaurs, also known as flat headed dinosaurs-complete with reptilian skin. Alternate descriptions or explanations of the creature could include “seals”, “dragon” or “mythical animal”.

“We’ve known it’s been in there a while now,” admitted Managing Director of Raystown Lake Dwight Beall when he was asked his thoughts on this astonishing discovery.

”It’s a private creature, but it comes out around this time of year.  Call it Raystown’s own Punxatawny Phil.”

Call it what you will, but this is no ground hog swimming in the water.  It seems that our favorite Pennsylvania lake may now have a mascot.

Bosnia ‘Pyramids’ Bear Gaza Marks

May 22 2006

SARAJEVO – An Egyptian geologist who has joined Bosnian researchers unearthing what are thought to be europes’s first pyramids believes they bear similar hallmarks to the ancient structures in his homeland, an official said.

Aly Abd Alla Barakat, of the Egyptian Mineral Resources Authority, believes large stone blocks found near Sarajevo were man-made and polished in the same way as the pyramids of Giza, said the Bosnian Pyramid Foundation’s Mario Gerussi.

“Barakat has also found the presence of a special material linking the stone blocks which is identical to that used for pyramids in Giza ,” he added.

Barakat had extensive knowledge of the pyramids in Egypt and had been recommended for the Bosnian mission by Zahi Hawass, one of the world’s foremost Egyptologists, said Gerussi.

Over the next month, he is to work with Bosnian experts at Visoko valley, some 30 kilometres north of Sarajevo, which is believed to be hiding three major pyramids.

Since the digging work began in mid-April on one of the three hills there believed contain pyramids, researchers have unearthed a number of large stone blocks.

Semir Osmanagic, a self-styled Bosnian explorer who initiated the work, says he believes the blocks are part of a pyramid’s surface.

Previously, satellite images showed that the hills in the valley cooled a lot faster than their surroundings, proving the substance of the structures was less dense and therefore probably made by men.

Also, the structures are precisely aligned with the four points of the compass.

The excavation work at Visoko, led by the foundation of local archaeologists and volunteers, will last 200 days and is expected to cost some 125,000 euros (160,000 dollars).

While most Bosnians are hopeful the pyramids will be found, a group of the country’s archaeologists and historians have dismissed Osmanagic’s mission as a “farce.”

New Research (Genesis Chapter 1?) Suggests ‘Hobbit’ Was Not a New Species

The debate over whether the “hobbit” fossil found on an Indonesian island is a separate species has reignited, as a new study of dwarfing in a range of mammals suggests that Homo floresiensis was a modern human with a pathological condition.

The remains of a tiny woman were found in a limestone cave in Flores, Indonesia.

Named H. floresiensis by the discoverers, she quickly became known as “the hobbit” by everyone else. When the find was reported in 2004 some anthropologists disputed whether it was a new species of human, arguing that the skeleton had characteristics of a modern human with microcephaly, a condition that causes reduced cranium size.

Microcephaly is relatively common in isolated populations and is associated with reduced brain function.
Peter Brown and Mike Morwood from the University of New England, Australia, proposed that the 1-metre-tall body (known as LB1) had evolved in an isolated population of Homo erectus as an adaptation to the restricted diet found on an island. But at 380 cubic centimetres, some thought that LB1’s chimp-sized cranial capacity was too small to be a dwarf H. erectus.

Brown and Morwood denied this, but their conclusion has now been challenged again.

Species identity

“As they dwarf, species’ brain sizes decline far more slowly than body size,” says Ann MacLarnon from Roehampton University, UK, who modelled dwarfing in a range of mammals from dogs to elephants with a team from the Field Museum, Chicago, US.

“Brain size is key to a mammal species’ identity,” she says. There is, for example, hardly any difference in brain size between the smallest modern humans, the 1.4-metre Bambuti people of Congo’s Ituri Forest, and the tallest, the 2-metre Masai of east Africa.
The team calculated that a dwarfed H. erectus with a 400cc brain would weigh just 2 kilograms. “That’s one-tenth of what the Flores people must have weighed,” she explains. The only way to explain the discrepancy, the team believes, is microcephaly.
“It’s perfectly plausible that these were pygmy people. But there’s only one skull, and that is human and microcephalic,” says team leader Robert Martin.

This, Martin believes, ties in with the abundance of sophisticated stone tools at the cave.

“These were sophisticated people with a high level of mental development,” he says.
“Although we only have one cranium,” says Morwood, “the other bones we found show that LB1 was a normal member of an endemically dwarfed hominid population.”

The distinctive traits of reduced body mass, reduced brain size and short thick legs mirror those found in other island endemic populations of large mammals, Morwood says.

He calls the microcephaly explanation “bizarre”. It ignores other evidence from Liang Bua and the literature on island endemic evolution, he says.

The Dragon of Ishtar Gate; The Dragon of Murduk; Real or Imagined?

May 19 2006

“The Dragon of the Ishtar Gate may be one of Cryptozoology’s strangest, yet best-documented, ancient crypids. This two and a half millennium old depiction is so unusual that many treat it as a chimera, an impossible combination of animals that could never have existed in nature.

But the people of ancient Babylon knew and accepted the ‘dragon’ as real, as real as the bulls and lions that also share the walls”….. Dragon of the Ishtar Gate by David G Stone.

Here at, we can’t be sure whether the Dragon of Marduk was a real creature or if it came from the imagination of the artist–but we’ve got a few ideas. It’s probably no surprise that we come down on the side of those who say it was a real creature, but we’ve got a good reason. We think we’ve seen it before.

We don’t think that artists from different cultures spanning nearly 2000 years all imagined the same strange, non-existent creature.

Although King Nebuchadnezzar in Bel and the Dragon of the Apocrypha mention a dragon, we don’t believe that this particular dragon is that specific great dragon either. But, we’ve got a notion.

Pre-Discovery, Fine Arts, Brachiosaurus Depiction from Portugal?

May 17 2006

There is precious little data about dinosaurs to transcend. What the museum scientists know about Indians, whales, and elephants is more than enough to mimic real life.

But when it comes to dinosaurs, all they really have to work with is an incomplete jumble of bones. …. And the elephants are a special case. There’s a running joke among professional dinosaur artists that goes like this: Given just an elephant skeleton, they’d probably render a titanic hamster……Discover Magazine..What Did Dinosaurs Look Like, and Will We Never Know?

We’ve used that quote in this section before, but its important to re-establish the idea that most of the dinosaur depictions that we see today are based on incomplete skeletons or bones and that in reality, few if any artist working today really knows what the dinosaurs actually looked like.

We believe that this early 19th century “coffee pot” clearly depicts the head of a sauropod—and after due consideration, we believe it is a depiction of a brachiosaurus. We chose brachiosaurus because it is known for its high, domed head.

An alternate identification might be a camarasaurus, which has a slightly flatter skull than the brachiosaurus. Clearly though, it is the head of a sauropod. The term dinosaur was first coined in 1841—and this piece is believed to be from 1825-1850.

The first sauropods weren’t discovered until 50 to 75 years after this silver piece was cast. Not only that, but early depictions of sauropods were “primitive” and certainly did not evidence the fine features and the “modern” look of this sauropod.

Most sauropod drawings of today conform and show the skin of the brachiosaurus as being closely stretched across its skeletal features. This silver depiction is of a more “fleshy” sauropod.

Clearly, the artist was familar with his subject and just as clearly his knowledge could not have come from fossil discoveries of that time. They were still to come-and of course as we’ve said, there is no comparison between this piece and the early dinosaur depictions even more than 100 years later.

According to the Natural History Museum of London, three dinosaur fossils have been found in Portugal; the brachiosaurus, the camarasaurus and the dacentrurus…

Rare Mirage Lasts for 4 Hours off East China Shore

Thousands of tourists and local residents witnessed a mirage of high clarity lasting for four hours off the shore of Penglai City in east China’s Shandong Province on Sunday.

Mists rising on the shore created an image of a city, with modern high-rise buildings, broad city streets and bustling cars as well as crowds of people all clearly visible.

The city of Penglai had been soaked by two days of rain before the rare weather phenomenon occurred.

The mirage took place during the week-long Labor Day holiday. The small city received over 30,000 tourists on Sunday.

Experts said that many mirages have been recorded in Penglai, on the tip of Shandong Peninsula, throughout history, which made it known as a dwelling place of the gods.

They explained that a mirage is formed when moisture in the air becomes warmer than the temperature of sea water, which refracts rays of sunlight to create reflections of the landscape in the sky.
