“What I seen that night was supposed to be none existent, I remember saying to Ron that this thing ain’t supposed to be alive.”

….This sighting happened to me 33 years ago.I was 23 years old I’m now 56 this month on Jan 20.

…..I said I have no idea but its very large whatever it is. You could here it get settled, and when it made it first screech we both about had a heart attack, it’s sound was of nothing I had ever heard or dreamed of.

It echoed through the redwoods.

Couple Sues Operators of Evolution Site

BERKELEY, Calif. (AP) — A California couple has sued the operators of a University of California-Berkeley Web site designed to help teachers teach evolution, claiming it improperly strays into religion.

Jeanne and Larry Caldwell of Granite Bay say portions of the Understanding Evolution Web site amount to a government endorsement of certain religious groups over others because the site is partly funded through a public money grant from the National Science Foundation.

In the lawsuit filed last month, the Caldwells contend the site is an effort “to modify the beliefs of public school science students so they will be more willing to accept evolutionary theory as true.”

The plaintiffs are not proponents of “intelligent design” — a theory that living organisms are so complex they must have been created by a higher intelligence — but they object to the teaching of evolution as scientific fact, Jeanne Caldwell said.

The site is run by UC Berkeley’s Museum of Paleontology and paid in part by a $400,000 grant from the National Science Foundation. Two university scientists and a foundation official were named as defendants.

An attorney representing the Berkeley scientists said the courts have repeatedly rejected the argument that teaching evolution in itself is teaching a religious idea

A WOMAN from Penarth claims she has been too frightened to go into her garden for a week after spotting an unusual creature spread across the wall.

The lady, who does not wish to be named, contacted the Penarth Times after reading the letter entitled ‘Mystery cat’ in last week’s edition (October 27).

But she does not think that the creature she saw in her Purcell Road garden was a cat.

“Whatever it was, was lying spread over the wall, like a bird,’ she said.

“I was sitting in my garden in a chair when I saw it. I went to get a closer look, but it must have seen me coming.
“The next thing I heard was a rustling and it seemed it was trying to climb over my next door neighbour’s garden.
“I have been here all my life and I have never been so frightened.”

The lady described the creature as being the length of the Penarth Times office front window – several metres (9 to 10 feet).

She also said she believed it may have escaped from somewhere, and added: ‘I hope that whatever it was doesn’t get in through people’s windows or into a baby’s pram.”

When Antarctica Was Green

Something is wrong with our recent history of Antarctica.

Conventional wisdom insists that the continent has been ice-covered for over 15 million years. But now Peter Webb and his coworkers have found pollen and the remains of roots and stems of plants in an area stretching some 1300 kilometers along the Transantarctic Mountains.

The Antarctic wood is so recent that it floats and burns with ease.

Webb’s group postulates that a shrub-like forest grew in Antarctica as recently as 3 million years ago. The dating, of course, is critical, and is certain to be subjected to careful scientific scrutiny. Nevertheless, these deposits of fresh-looking wood do suggest that trees recently grew only 400 miles from the South Pole.

Also of interest is the fact that the sedimentary layers containing the wood have been displaced as much as 3000 meters by faults, indicating recent large-scale geological changes.

Swiss Unearth Giant Camel Bones

The ancient giant camel bone on the left is much larger than those of today’s camels (Keystone)

Researchers from Basel and Zurich universities have discovered a new species of giant camel that lived thousands of years ago.

Bones uncovered in Syria reveal that the animal was more than three metres tall – closer in size to a giraffe than a modern camel.

“Between July and August we found several giant camel bones from different animals, which confirmed that this was a new species,” said Jean-Marie Le Tensorer, professor of prehistory at Basel University.

The scientists unearthed more than 20 bone fragments from different layers of rock, leading them to believe that the animals had lived over a period of thousands, or even tens of thousands of years.

The bone fragments – from the foot, shoulder and jaw – have been dated back to 100,000 years ago. All are around twice the normal size for a camel.

“Sensational find”

Tools made from animal foot bones were found close to the site, indicating that humans had hunted these large animals, the scientists said.

“This find is sensational as it could help us understand the evolution of the camel,” said anthropologist Peter Schmid of Zurich University.

Scientists know very little about the history of the camel, and are unsure whether it or the one-humped dromedary comes first in the evolutionary order.

The discovery was made near the village of El Kown in central Syria, close to the site of one of the oldest human settlements ever excavated.

Those defensive Darwinists

Special to The Times
M. RYDER / OP ART

by Jonathan Witt, a senior fellow with Discovery Institute.

THE first court trial over the theory of intelligent design is now over, with a ruling expected by the end of the year. What sparked the legal controversy? Before providing two weeks of training in modern evolutionary theory, the Dover, Pa., School District briefly informed students that if they wanted to learn about an alternative theory of biological origins, intelligent design, they could read a book about it in the school library.

In short order, the School District was dragged into court by a group insisting the school policy constituted an establishment of religion, this despite the fact that the unmentionable book bases its argument on strictly scientific evidence, without appealing to religious authority or attempting to identify the source of design.

The lawsuit is only the latest in a series of attempts to silence the growing controversy over contemporary Darwinian theory.

For instance, after The New York Times ran a series on Darwinism and design recently, prominent Darwinist Web sites excoriated the newspaper for even covering intelligent design, insulting its proponents with terms like Medievalist, Flat-Earther and “American Taliban.”

University of Minnesota biologist P.Z. Myers argues that Darwinists should take an even harder line against their opponents: “Our only problem is that we aren’t martial enough, or vigorous enough, or loud enough, or angry enough,” he wrote. “The only appropriate responses should involve some form of righteous fury, much butt-kicking, and the public firing and humiliation of some teachers, many school board members, and vast numbers of sleazy far-right politicians.”

This month, NPR reported on behavior seemingly right out of the P.Z. Myers playbook.

The most prominent victim in the story was Richard Sternberg, a scientist with two Ph.D.s in evolutionary biology and former editor of a journal published out of the Smithsonian’s Museum of Natural History. He sent out for peer review, then published, a paper arguing that intelligent design was the best explanation for the geologically sudden appearance of new animal forms 530 million years ago.

The U.S. Office of Special Counsel reported that Sternberg’s colleagues immediately went on the attack, stripping Sternberg of his master key and access to research materials, spreading rumors that he wasn’t really a scientist and, after determining that they didn’t want to make a martyr out of him by firing him, deliberately creating a hostile work environment in the hope of driving him from the Smithsonian.

The NPR story appalled even die-hard skeptics of intelligent design, people like heavyweight blogger and law professor Glenn Reynolds, who referred to the Smithsonian’s tactics as “scientific McCarthyism.”

Also this month, the Kansas Board of Education adopted a policy to teach students the strengths and weaknesses of modern evolutionary theory. Darwinists responded by insisting that there are no weaknesses, that it’s a plot to establish a national theocracy — despite the fact that the weaknesses that will be taught come right out of the peer-reviewed, mainstream scientific literature.

One cause for their insecurity may be the theory’s largely metaphysical foundations. As evolutionary biologist A.S. Wilkins conceded, “Evolution would appear to be the indispensable unifying idea and, at the same time, a highly superfluous one.”

And in the September issue of The Scientist, National Academy of Sciences member Philip Skell argued that his extensive investigations into the matter corroborated Wilkins’ view. Biologist Roland Hirsch, a program manager in the U.S. Office of Biological and Environmental Research, goes even further, noting that Darwinism has made a series of incorrect predictions, later refashioning the paradigm to fit the results.

How different from scientific models that lead to things like microprocessors and satellites. Modern evolutionary theory is less a cornerstone and more the busybody aunt — into everyone’s business and, all the while, very much insecure about her place in the home.

Moreover, a growing list of some 450 Ph.D. scientists are openly skeptical of Darwin’s theory, and a recent poll by the Louis Finkelstein Institute found that only 40 percent of medical doctors accept Darwinism’s idea that humans evolved strictly through unguided, material processes.

Increasingly, the Darwinists’ response is to try to shut down debate, but their attempts are as ineffectual as they are misguided. When leaders in Colonial America attempted to ban certain books, people rushed out to buy them. It’s the “Banned in Boston” syndrome.

Today, suppression of dissent remains the tactic least likely to succeed in the United States. The more the Darwinists try to prohibit discussion of intelligent design, the more they pique the curiosity of students, parents and the general public.

In May 2004, a group of about 30 concerned scientists published an open letter to the global scientific community in New Scientist in which they protested the stranglehold of Big Bang theory on cosmological research and funding.

The letter was placed on the Internet Here and rapidly attracted wide attention.

It currently has about 300 signatories representing scientists and researchers of disparate backgrounds, and has led to a loose association now known as the Alternative Cosmology Group.

The author was one of the early signatories to the letter, and holding the view that the Big Bang explanation of the Universe is scientifically untenable, patently illogical, and without any solid observational support whatsoever, became involved in the organisation of an international forum where we could share ideas and plan our way forward.

…..What impressed me most was that the clear empirical basis of MOND has been thoroughly tested, and is now in daily use by professional astronomers at what is arguably the most sophisticated and advanced optical-infrared observatory in the world.

In practice, there is no need to invoke dark matter.

Quote from Riccardo: “Dark matter is the craziest idea we’ve ever had in astronomy. It can appear when you need it, it can do what you like, be distributed in any way you like. It is the fairy tale of astronomy”.

Mysterious Antarctica May Be The Home of the Oldest Civilization

Lots of surprises may be hidden under the Antarctic ice and are waiting to be discovered.

The possible existence of a prehistoric civilization in Antarctica started drawing attention of professional historians after the World War II. The hypothesis can be supported by the medieval maps and research of the Western paleogeologists and glaciologists.

….About twenty years later the head of the Istanbul National Museum, Halil Edhem found an old map while revising the library of Byzantine emperors in the old sultans palace.

The author of the map depicted the Western coast of Africa, the Southern coast of South America and the Northern coast of Antarctica.

…..Halil was astonished. The ice edge of the Queen Maud Land south of 70th parallel was free of ice. The author mapped a mountain chain at this point. The name of the cartographer was well known to Edhem. It was the admiral of Ottoman Empire Fleet, Piri Reis, who lived in the first half of the 16th century.

The Ancient Bimini Harbor: Uncovering the Great Bimini Hoax

Alternate Perceptions Magazine

Dr. Greg Little

In May 2005, a team of researchers made an extensive expedition to both Bimini and Andros in the Bahamas. A 73-minute DVD “amateur” documentary has been made of the expedition and its results.

In brief, near the formation known as the “Bimini Road,” numerous large stone circles were found along with stone anchors, wood under some of the large stones, and cut blocks of stone. This particular site is nearly completely unknown.

At the Bimini Road, numerous multiple tiers of stones were found, prop stones were found under the massive blocks, and cut rectangular slabs of stone were found literally stacked under some of the large blocks. A variety of other human artifacts were found.

The results indicate that the Bimini formation was once an ancient harbor, nearly identical to many in the Mediterranean.

Follow-up research on what skeptical geologists and one archaeologist have written uncovered a hoax that falsified reports on the site utilizing pseudoscience.

In brief, what popular archaeology textbooks have asserted about the site isn’t true. The root of the hoax was traced to U. S. Geological Survey geologist Eugene Shinn and archaeologist Marshall McKusick. In fact, Eugene Shinn’s original 1978 report actually detailed results that point to the Bimini Road being manmade.

The evidence of the hoax as well as the overall findings from the expedition have been prepared in a monograph in pdf files. Two pdf files of the 30-page monograph, containing 70 color photos and illustrations, are available for free download. The Screen version is 720 k, and is best used if you only plan on reading and viewing the monograph on a computer screen.

If you want to print out the paper, choose the Print version, which is over 6 mb. Individuals are permitted to download a copy for personal use, but reuse of any of the photos or illustrations (especially on the internet) is prohibited without obtaining permission. Mysterious- America.net
